Testing Information

Admissions Testing

Students planning to apply for admission to any college or university must take either the SAT or the ACT. In addition to a student’s academic records, college admission test scores are yet another tool utilized in the admission process. High school students may be eligible for fee waivers. Placement Testing

Once you’ve been admitted to a college or university, the next step is to determine for what level coursework you are academically prepared to pursue. Using the results of one of the following assessments, your college advisor will assist you with developing your college graduation plan and selecting your classes each semester.

THEA

Students entering a 4-year Texas public college or university may also need to take the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) before enrolling in any college-level coursework. For information about whether you are exempt from this test, contact your high school counselor, or the college you plan to attend.

ACCUPLACER

The purpose of the ACCUPLACER test is to provide 2-year community colleges with useful information about your academic skills in math, English, and reading. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection. Contact the community college you plan to attend for their testing schedule and fees.
